Affordable Private Health Insurance

Why do people buy health insurance?

Peace of mind is a common motivation; it is difficult to watch the news these days without hearing about ever-increasing pressures on the NHS and the deteriorating situation regarding waiting lists to be seen by a specialist or for an operation.

A private medical plan can provide expert medical care for you and your loved ones; whether you find yourself dealing with cancer, heart disease, back pain, IBS or even pregnancy, your health insurance policy could ensure that you're seen and treated swiftly.

Not all policies are the same of course: a basic policy will usually cover the cost of in-patient treatments (tests and surgery) and day-care surgery. Some policies will extend to cover the cost of out-patient treatments too; perhaps involving specialists or consultants.

Can my family avoid waiting in NHS queues?

With a health insurance policy you and your family will have swift, priority access to expert medical help should you need it. We all know and respect the incredible work of our NHS; but the demands placed upon the system inevitably lead to queues and delays. For non-urgent referrals, NHS patients can wait up to 18 weeks; and that can be a long time to endure discomfort or inconvenience. Private health insurance policies are often taken to avoid long waiting times in the future.

I have a healthcare cash plan. Won't that do the same job?

No, healthcare cash plans and Private Medical Insurance are not the same thing - though you can have both; there’s no need to choose one or the other.

Cash plans provide a limited cashback facility against everyday treatments such as dentistry, a trip to the optician or maybe a course of physiotherapy. You pay a monthly premium to your insurer and you pay upfront for your NHS treatment, but then claim back some or all of the costs from your insurer; depending on your policy and within certain limits.

To decide if this could be a good option, you need to judge whether your premiums are likely to be more or less than the cash you can likely claim back over the term of the policy. At this time Our Healthcare are not able to offer quotes for healthcare cash plans.
